Retirement Community Red Flags

In this article, we will go over a few red flags to watch out for when choosing a retirement community.

  • High Turnover – One red flag you should be on the lookout for when researching or touring a retirement community is a high staff turnover rate. Some amount of turnover is inevitable, as people leave jobs for all kinds of reasons, but if staff seem to be leaving constantly, then it’s likely there is a systemic issue at play.
  • Lack of Transparency – A reputable retirement community will also be honest and transparent about their pricing and fees. Our team, for instance, understands this is a major decision, so we provide all the information you will need to make the right choice for yourself and your family. If the staff at a retirement community is cagey about its pricing, then we encourage you to look elsewhere.
  • Cold Attitude – A third red flag to watch out for when choosing a retirement community is a cold or indifferent attitude from the staff. You need to be able to get along with the staff at whatever community you choose—after all, you will be relying on them for support. Observe staff interactions with residents—and YOU as a visitor. You should be able to feel a caring, friendly atmosphere where both residents and staff seem happy and content. If you don’t like the staff’s attitude, we encourage you to keep looking.
