Assisted living can be a difficult subject for some families, especially when they’re doing their best to care for their elders and make sure they have everything they need at home. However, the reality is that sometimes assisted living is the better option for a family member’s health and quality of life.
If you’re not sure whether assisted living is right for your family member, or for yourself, here are some signs that it may be time to start considering it:
- Forgetting to Take Medication- It’s normal for seniors to be forgetful as they age, but this can be a problem if they have medications that they need to take on a regular basis. Assisted living staff members can administer such medications and make sure they aren’t forgotten.
- Difficulty Performing Household Tasks- If your family member can’t take care of tasks like cleaning their house, cooking meals, or washing clothes, these are signs that they may not be able to live on their own anymore.
- Frequent Falls- Falling is very dangerous for older people, as they could get seriously injured and have difficulty healing. If your loved one has become frail, moving them into an assisted living facility can minimize the risk that they will fall or at least get them the help they need quickly if it happens.
- Feelings of Isolation- When seniors are depressed or feeling lonely, this can impact their physical and emotional health. Assisted living provides more opportunities to socialize and feel a sense of community to reduce feelings of isolation.
