When it’s time for a loved one to move to an assisted living facility to ensure their health and safety as they age, it might be hard to convince them to do so. There are so many myths regarding assisted living facilities that can make them less appealing than they should be for your aging loved ones. Here are three common myths about assisted living facilities dispelled.

Dispelling 3 Common Myths about Assisted Living Facilities

  1. Myth: Independence is taken away: Many people fear that moving out of their own home means sacrificing their independence. This isn’t true. For many seniors, they may live in their own home but need to rely on the assistance of a family member for help, housekeepers, etc. The truth is that they may enjoy more independence in an assisted living facility where everything is designed to help them maintain independence while receiving the assistance they need to do so.
  1. Myth: There’s no sense of community: Seniors may also fear that they have to sacrifice their sense of community by moving away from their family and loved ones. Once again, this is untrue. We help create a sense of community for our residents with varied activities that promote socializing, bonding, and enjoyment. Members of our community can enjoy being surrounded by friends and visited often by their loved ones.
  1. Myth: Everything will be plain: Another common fear regarding going to an assisted living facility is that everything will be sterile and white and feel drained of life. This isn’t true for our facility. For example, we prioritize time outdoors for the boost it provides in physical and mental health. That’s why we keep our grounds beautiful with plenty of gardens, pathways, porches, and beautiful views. We also have placed bird feeders around the campus to allow for welcome bird visits.

Agreeing to go to an assisted living facility doesn’t have to be scary or feel like a sacrifice. We at Vienna Assisted Living are happy to help in any way that we can to keep your loved ones happy and comfortable in their aging years.
